Hockey for the Deans Fund-raiser a Success!
On October 5, 2009 the home of Perry and Leah Dean, and their four children, was partially destroyed by fire. Perry Dean had discovered the fire while working outside and was able to summon the fire department; however, despite a fast response, there was significant damage to the home. The Dean Family home suffered significant structural damage to fire and were identified by community members as beneficiaries for monies that would be earned by a community fund raising event headed by the RCMP in Valleyview.
On Saturday, March 13, 2010 the Valleyview RCMP in partnership with the Valleyview Jets and Valleyview Minor Hockey Ice Bears, Novice and Pre-Novice teams, participated in a community fund-raising event for the Dean Family.
UPDATE
The RCMP and JETS each played a 15 minute period against each of the Ice Bear teams before playing a game against each other. A five dollar admission (donation) was requested upon entry to the arena. Valleyview Victim Services held a bake sale while the minor hockey teams conducted raffles and 50/50 draws.
The national anthem was performed by the Hillside High School Singers who also performed between periods along with the Valleyview Cobras POM team. Music students provided additional entertainment in the stands.
Organizers wish to thank the various contributors, sponsors and volunteers for their help in making the evening a success. Of note is the MD of Greenview, Town of Valleyview, Valleyview POMEROY Inn, Royal Canadian Legion, Valleyview Elks Club, Valleyview Minor Hockey Association, Pomeroy Inn & Suites, Burger Baron, Travelers Restaurant, Valleyview Co-Op, Valleyview Home Hardware, Hillside High School Singers with Barb Hatch, Valleyview Cougars POM Team with Shaundra Malcolm, Greg Loewen and students, Valleyview Victim Services, Leo Marcotte (Time Keeper), Rem Dietzen and Mike Irla (On Ice officials), Amber Bowman (Announcer) and surrounding RCMP Detachments: Faust/Lakeshore, Fox Creek, High Prairie, Peace River and Slave Lake.
Further special thanks are extended to those people who attended on the evening to lend their support to the Dean family. Direct monies raised at the door and by the events held inside equaled $4181.32. A special mention goes to Mile Post Oil Field Services of St. Albert, Alberta who matched the preliminary estimate, donating $4110.00 bringing the total to $8291.32 raised.
